‘Blooming Marvellous’ Awards Evening

Published: 21 October 2025

On 9th October 2025, competition entrants, In Bloom Working Group members, Councillors, Chair’s of West Sussex County Council and Arun District Council, our wonderful sponsors and invited guests attended our Bognor Regis in Bloom Awards evening at the Salvation Army Hall, Queensway to celebrate the floral achievements of our green-fingered residents and businesses.

Our In Bloom Working Group members decorated the hall using seasonal produce and flowers to create a stunning autumnal theme for the evening.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Paul Wells welcomed everyone and thanked all In Bloom entrants for providing much enjoyment to residents and visitors alike with their glorious examples of beautiful gardens, dazzling basket displays and colourful business frontages dotted around the town.

Our Town Crier, Jane Smith acted as host for the evening starting the celebrations with a ‘special’ word of thanks to Mrs. Margaret Huntingdon who, until she retired earlier this year, has been such a key member of the In Bloom Working Group.

We are always looking for younger members of our community to get involved in growing flowers and vegetables and this year we were delighted to welcome school children and their representatives from South Bersted C of E Primary School and Bersted Green Primary School. It was clear from both entries that the children enjoyed planting and watching their vegetables grow and it was a delight to reward their efforts on the night with trophies and certificates.

A new award for this year was our best sunflower display. Evie, aged 5, showed us all how easy it is to get involved and grow sunflowers successfully by producing a lovely selection of well-tended sunflowers in a planter.

Thanks once again to our sponsors: Peter Baldwin of Peter Baldwin & Co Accountants, Bognor Regis Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Brick Kiln Garden Centre and Arundel Trophies. We very much value all your support in supporting our competition.

Whilst this year’s competition may be over, we will soon be planning next year’s campaign. If you love to garden, why not make 2026 the year to submit an entry – we’d love to hear from you.
