As a result of significant engineering work, there will be no
Southern trains between Havant and Southampton Central from this Saturday, 12
April up to and including Easter Sunday, 20 April.
As a result, throughout this period, buses will replace trains
on this part of the Southern network. Trains that normally run between
Brighton and Southampton will still run but will be diverted to operate
between Brighton and Portsmouth & Southsea instead, and will also call
additionally at Fratton.
Please also note that this major engineering work will also
impact SWR, GWR and Cross Country services in the Fareham to Southampton
areas too, with various changes to trains and replacement buses in operation.
What work is taking place?
Network Rail is going to be doing work to stabilise a railway
cutting between Swanwick and Fareham, strengthen a footbridge at Hamble,
replace key parts of a bridge that carries the railway between Bitterne and
St Deny’s, and undertake various heavy maintenance including rail testing and
lubrication for smoother and quieter journeys.
The works have been timed to take place during the Easter school
holidays, when there are typically fewer people travelling.
Keeping customers informed
Full details of all the changes to train times and replacement
bus information is showing in journey planners such as nationalrail.co.uk.
Working in conjunction with Network Rail and the other impacted
operators, we have been running a communications and information campaign
since early March to encourage customers to plan ahead and check journeys in
advance. We would welcome your support this week to share this information on
your own channels, to help get the message out to as many people as possible.
As always, if you have any questions, do let us know.
Kind regards,
Ben
