On Thursday 6th June 2024, Bognor Regis joined together with local communities throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK oversea territories and the five beaches of Normandy, where the D-Day landings took place, to light their beacon.

This special event, held at the seafront beacon brazier, featured a performance from a Dame Vera Lynn tribute act 'A Salute to Vera Lynn', Piper McKay. and the reading of the International Tribute and Proclamation, by Bognor Regis Town Crier, Jane Smith.

The Mayor, Town Crier and lone Piper lit the beacon at 9.15pm, to form part of the international memorial and crowds gathered alongside Veterans, Cadets and other service personnel, to commemorate this anniversary, which deserves the recognition and gratitude of us all.
