Engineering works affecting Southern Services during February half-term

Published: 09 February 2024

I’m writing to let you know there will be changes to Southern services in the Southampton and Portsmouth areas next week, because of major engineering work being carried out by Network Rail.

As a result, from Monday 12 through to Friday 16 February buses will replace Southern trains between Havant and Southampton and separately also between Portsmouth & Southsea and Portsmouth Harbour.

Trains that normally run to and from Southampton Central will be diverted to run to and from Fratton. Portsmouth Harbour services will run and from Portsmouth & Southsea or Fratton instead.

Unfortunately this work does mean journeys will take longer and we’re advising customers to plan ahead, allow extra time and check before they travel using journey planners such as nationalrail.co.uk

Given the nature of the works being carried out by Network Rail, it also impacts South Western Railway and GWR services in these areas too. As you would expect we have been working with both operators to ensure customers know what is happening in advance and that our plans for looking after customers next week are co-ordinated.

The works have been scheduled to take place during the half-term holidays for most schools in the affected areas when there are generally fewer people travelling.

For more information on the work being carried out by Network Rail please visit their project page on their website.

If you require further information about changes to Southern services during these works please let us know.

Best wishes
Ben
