Funding awarded to the 39 Youth Club from the 'Youth & Young Persons Budget'

Published: 08 February 2024

On Tuesday 6th February 2024, the Mayor, Cllr Oppler, presented a cheque for £7,000 to the 39 Youth Club, funded from the Environmental and Leisure Committee’s ‘Youth & Young Persons’ Budget.
The Town Council have financially supported a number of youth organisations in recent years, enabling them to continue to provide vital youth provision for young people in Bognor Regis, and will continue to do so, with a new round of applications for those wishing to apply for funding, being open from April 2024.

Brian Ansell, Chair of the 39 Youth Club, submitted a successful application, to go toward supporting the development of the Youth Club, and maintenance of the building itself including ‘bringing it up to date’.

Brian said “I was delighted today to receive a cheque from Bognor Regis Town Council, presented by our Mayor, for the sum of £7,000. Some readers will already know we used to run the whole of the 39-club building for WSCC but some years ago, like all local authorities, funding for youth work from Government was stopped. We could not use the premises for about 6 years then we negotiated a lease for the annexe.

Over the last few years, we have managed to reach the point where we have a 25 Lease for the whole site, so we’re now back in the buildings many attended as young people from the 1960s to 1990s. As most was not used as a youth club since, we have lots to do!

This £7,000 will really help. Thank you to Town Councillors for considering us”

The 39 Youth Club aims to provide recreational and leisure time activities, in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve the quality of life and experiences for local young people. Their youth workers provide support and activities which develop skills, capacities, and capabilities to enable the young people who attend to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

To help the Youth Club achieve the objectives they have planned, they are seeking more help from local people, parents of the young people who attend, former ‘39ers’, trades who can offer advise and anyone willing to join their committees.
