REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY

On Remembrance Sunday, as part of a private ceremony, the Town Mayor Councillor Phil Woodall undertook his duty on behalf of the Town Council and observed a two-minute silence, laying a wreath on behalf of the Townsfolk at the War Memorial in Bognor Regis. Following the Government announcement of the second national lockdown, the Town Council had to take the decision to scale back plans for the private ceremony even further to ensure lockdown rules were adhered to, and as a result the Town Mayor could only observe the silence and lay the wreath. Public safety is of paramount importance to Bognor Regis Town Council and, in line with the guidance from the Royal British Legion, members of the public were asked to #RememberAtHome this year and to not attend the War Memorial. However, the civic duties carried out by the Town Mayor were live streamed to the Town Council’s Facebook page.

Whilst it was not possible to mark this day in the usual way the act of the laying of the wreath and the observance of the two-minute silence demonstrates the gratitude of the Town of Bognor Regis to those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
