Proposal to enlarge Felpham Community College & St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Bognor Regis

Notice is given in accordance with the Education and Inspections Act 2006, as amended, (the Act) that West Sussex County Council, County Hall, West Street Chichester PO19 0RE intend to make prescribed alterations to Felpham Community College, Felpham Way, Felpham, Bognor Regis PO22 8EL and St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Glamis Street, Bognor Regis PO21 1DJ.

Enlargement of premises

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that West Sussex County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Felpham Community College and St Mary’s Catholic Primary from 1st September 2019 by permanently enlarging the premises of both schools.

It is proposed to enlarge the premises of Felpham Community College from 1 September 2019 to provide an additional 300 secondary school places. The existing permanent capacity of Felpham Community College is 1358. At the September 2017 School Census the school had 1374 children on roll. The proposed capacity of the school after the alteration would be 1700 (an increase of 342 places overall). The existing Published Admission Number (PAN) for Felpham Community College is 240. The proposed PAN from the 2019/20 academic year is 300. It is proposed that the school would grow year-on-year until it reaches its new capacity. The school would reach capacity when it has 300 children in each year group from Year 7 to Year 11 – a total of 1500 children taught in 50 classrooms. This does not include the sixth form provision which will remain unaltered.

It is proposed to enlarge the premises of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School from 1 September 2019 to provide an additional 105 primary school places. The existing permanent capacity of St Mary’s Catholic Primary is 300. At the September 2017 School Census the school had 302 children on roll. The proposed capacity of the school after the alteration would be 420 (an increase of 120 places overall). The existing Published Admission Number (PAN) for St Mary’s Catholic Primary is 45. The proposed PAN from the 2019/20 academic year is 60. It is proposed that the school would grow year-on-year until it reaches its new capacity. The school would reach capacity when it has 60 children

in each year group from Reception Year to Year 6 – a total of 420 children taught in 14 classrooms.
